Netsilik School is a member of the Kitikmeot Divisional Educational Council located in Kugluktuk. With a staff of 23 Netsilik School serves a school population of 240 students from grades k-12, as well as a preschool program funded by Aboriginal Headstart Canada. Unique among KDEC schools the preschool program and grades k-2 are Inuktitut immersion with plans to extend this into higher grades as qualified Inuktitut speaking teachers become available.
Although nearly 30 years old the school building has undergone a major renovation and extension, and incorporates all the necessary facilities to serve preschool to grade twelve programs including home economics lab, industrial arts, two computer labs, music room, science lab and greenhouse, library and gymnasium. Close proximity to the Community swimming pool also allow for a swimming program early in the school year, and environmental and cultural camps are very popular among students and staff alike.
Netsilik School encourages its students to give their best and makes it possible for all students to acquire a High School diploma in their home community. We believe our young people have great potential and we are here to help them to realise this and to help them achieve their dreams.
