Jewellery & Metalwork Program |
The Diploma Program in Jewellery/Metalwork will enable students to develop
their knowledge and skills of jewellery and metalwork design in a professional studio
atmosphere. This program is designed to allow each student to eventually specialize in an
area of study that particularly interests them. The first year of the Diploma Program provides an environment for the students to acquire the necessary skills that will enable them to translate their ideas into two and three dimensional metal jewellery and sculpture. Upon successful completion of the first year students will be able to demonstrate mastery of basic to intermediate metal fabrication skills and will also be able to demonstrate basic silversmithing, repousse and engraving techniques. This first year includes courses in Foundation Drawing and design, Inuit material cultural history, jewellery history, lapidary and required communications and marketing courses. With completion of the first year, students can produce their own designs at excellent standards for basic and intermediate skills. They will be able to work in a studio unsupervised. The second year will consist of more advanced courses in design, drawing and presentation techniques for jewellery, precious stone and other materials, casting, advanced metal construction techniques I and II. |
