Thunder on the Tundra: Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit of the Bathurst Caribou that details the many stories and drawings gathered through the Tuktu and Nogak Project. Based on more that 37 interviews, this chronicle provides a fascinating view into the world of caribou as understood by Inuit from the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut.In the words of the people themselves, it presents Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, traditional knowledge, for the benefit of present and future generations.


This 240-page collection with over 100 drawings, photos and maps was written by Natasha Thorpe, Naikak Hakongak, Sandra Eyegetok and the Kitikmeot Elders, illustrated by local elders and youth, and designed by a northerner, Lynn O’Rourke of Rubber Boots Productions. Well-known northerners and arctic photographers, Paul Nicklen and David Pelly , generously contributed their photos. This work is the result of a community effort that was made possible through the dedication and hard work of many people and agencies.
